Privacy Policy for Daily Mandarin

This Privacy Policy explains how Daily Mandarin ("the App," "we," "us") handles information when you use the App.

No account required

Daily Mandarin does not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address, or any other personal identifier to use the App.

Information we collect

Learning progress. Your vocabulary progress, review history, streaks, and app settings (such as your chosen daily reminder time, character-set preference, and enabled HSK levels) are stored locally on your device only. We do not transmit this data to our own servers.

Usage analytics. We use PostHog, a third-party analytics provider, to understand how the App is used — for example, which screens are viewed and which features are used — so we can improve the App. This data is associated with an anonymous, randomly generated device identifier, not your name or email.

Purchase information. If you subscribe to Daily Mandarin Pro, purchase and subscription status information (such as whether your subscription is active, and its renewal date) is processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play, and shared with our subscription management provider, RevenueCat, so the App can unlock Pro features. We do not receive or store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Apple or Google.

Notifications. If you enable daily reminder notifications, this permission is managed by your device's operating system. We do not collect or store any data related to this permission beyond whether it is enabled on your device.

How we use information

We use the information described above solely to operate, maintain, and improve the App, and to provide Daily Mandarin Pro subscription features to subscribers.

Data sharing

We share information only with the service providers named above (PostHog for analytics, RevenueCat and Apple/Google for subscription processing), as necessary for them to provide their services to us. We do not sell your information.

Data retention

Learning progress stored on your device remains there until you delete the App. Analytics data is retained by PostHog according to their standard retention practices. You can request deletion of analytics data associated with your device by contacting us at the email below.

Children's privacy

Daily Mandarin is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

Your rights

Because most data lives locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by uninstalling the App. To ask about or request deletion of any analytics data we hold, contact us using the information below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
